A Year of Projects - July 27th 2014

This past week I was able to cast on my Stage Six socks.  They are toe up and double knit and are taking me forever to finish!!  Who am I kidding - I am am making very slow progress with these!!  I find DK to be very slow and tough on my hands.  I also find it difficult to get my tension nice and even...  This is all I managed to get done this week (not likely I will finish before the deadline of July 31st...):

I also think I may be suffering from sock knitting burnout.  I have knit a lot in the past several months and all of it has been in speed/time limit conditions.  I am thinking I am ready for a break!  SO I started my sock scrap yarn afghan!!  I am thinking I may be addicted to making these little mitered squares!!  I am also not doing this in any planned design.  I will randomly choose each color as I am ready to add a new square.  The only condition I will place is that I do not want to have two colors that are too close in color to be side-by-side.  Otherwise the more random the better!!

So far it measures about 11.5 inches on each long side.  I have also tucked in all the tails except for those showing.  I will need to do the tails on a regular, frequent basis so it is not too overwhelming later!  Here is where I go to in the past few days:

Over the next week I am hoping to continue to work on the scrapghan, get a bit more done on my Stage Six socks, and maybe start assembling the crochet squares.

  2. I am not at all surprised that you are feeling sock burnout - Tour de Sock seems just too intense and too pressure-filled! Good idea to go with the afghan blocks for a while :)

  6. I can imagine the burnout after tour de sock, but the start of that sock is gorgeous.

  7. The scrapghan is gorgeous, I love the randomness of it! With the sock being dk I'd say your doing awesome, it always takes longer I find anything in dk

    1. Thanks! I find I have trouble getting nice, even tension with DK - that is part of what slows me down (and the double number of stitches - basically knitting four socks...)

  8. The sock is gorgeous! I never knew there was such a thing as DK socks. The design is beautiful and those are 2 things I wanted to learn this year...actually 3... double knitting, toe -up socks and stranded color work. Who knew you could do it all in one project? Although I don't think it would be wise for me to try and learn all 3 like that! LOL! I have enough trouble learning one skill at a time.
You went to Ireland? Awesome and how wonderful.
I love your scrapghan. I don't have enough scraps but someday hopefully after I make my zillion pairs of socks. It looks great so far.

  9. The sock is really pretty but looks very complicated to me. I have never done double knitting but would like to learn it sometime. Maybe on a hat or cowl. The scrapghan is great too. Glad you are enjoying it so much. Your list is really shaping up already. Good job.

  10. The sock is so lovely. If you made that in turquoise and white, it would be a perfect Elsa sock for a Frozen obsessed little girl!
