WIP-it Wednesday (April 13th 2011)

Here is my WIPW posting for April 13th 2011. To see more like this please visit tami's amis

I have made a fair bit of progress on my Around the World.

Progress as of last Wednesday
Progress as of this morning

I have also started two new lace projects.  I need to add more to my WIP list like I need a hole in the head...

Here is my Sojourn Falls:

This is my first ever project using beads and I must say it has been a challenge!  Now that I have the hang of it I am moving along nicely.

The color is actually lilac not pink...  Another thing I need to practice and work on is better picture taking skills :)

And here is my Spring Leaves:

This is being made in a worsted weight so I made it narrower than the pattern.  I also suspect I may not have to do so many repeats to get it to a decent length.

  1. Getting yarn to look right in photos is a tricky business! Try making yourself a DIY light box - proper lighting can make the world of difference.

Failing that, just have a play with your photos with free photo editing software like Picasa, to see what adjusting things like colour saturation and brightness can do.

Blanket's looking awesome, how many squares did you churn out this week! It's grown a lot quicker than it would if I were making it!

  2. Wow, that afghan is looking fantastic! Thats some impressive progress made.

One simple thing I did that I think makes my photos look a little better (though I admit to being no great shakes with the camera) was switch from using a dark background to using a white one. And have a look at your camera manual if you have it and see if there are settings to take close up pictures. I adjusted the settings and kept playing around until I came up with something that looked about right and now I just keep those settings.

  3. Lovely afghan and that's an impressive amount of progress for a week.

I try and take most of my photos outside in natural light - I have a fancy DSLR camera but use it on auto constantly, works most of the time.

  5. Great progress!

I am always amazed when people have multiple projects on the go - I don't think I'd be able to keep up with them all :-)

  6. Love your work - everything looks fantastic (especially that afghan!) - as for photos, I have the same issue. Aside from taking it outside or bring it to work with the horrible faux-light, I don't have much choice but explain "that's not really the color" LOL

  8. The blanket is coming along beautifully -- the colors go together so well. Your lace projects are off to a good start, too. Once you get the hang of the beads, you may find adding them to lots of projects (that's what happened to me).

  11. I like the addition of the bolder colors on the blanket. They really add to the look of it. Thanks for the link to the Spring Leaves scarf too, I'm off to favorite it!

  13. The blanket is beautiful! Every time you add a section I love it more. I love knitting with beads in it, but haven't tried it yet. Your project looks great and I love the color you're using.
